MEDICATION USE
Chronic Medication Usage has Serious Health Implications
Medication can save lives and that was its original intended use. But the long-term use of medications to suppress symptoms is not a strategy for a healthy life. More than half of Americans take 2 or more prescription medications on a regular basis and that number continues to rise. Just because it is common, does not mean it is normal – or healthy! You would be hard pressed to find a medication without a side effect (or a side effect without a medication to follow), leading to a cascade of pills that assault the liver and kidneys, and severally stress the nervous system.
Is there another option? Instead of masking the symptoms of a health challenge with medication (prescription or over the counter), you can address the cause of the problem and allow the body to heal the way it is designed. Quite often, the cause of a symptom stems from nerve irritation or interference (what chiropractors refer to as a subluxation) that impairs the communication and function between the brain and the rest of the body. This interference can cause the heart to be less efficient or digestion to slow. That means the best way to fix the problem is not Blood Pressure Medication or an Antacid, but to remove the interference. This can be done with specific chiropractic adjustments.
The Pitfall of Maintenance Medication
Emergency medication saves lives every day. But maintenance medications are a different story. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, 100,000 Americans die from reactions to prescription drugs each year, making it the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S. In this episode of Hometown Health, Dr. Dan Turo will discuss the slippery slope of prescription medication and how you can avoid the pitfall of maintenance medication.
Inflammation and the Healing Process
For many Americans, inflammation goes hand in hand with the use of anti-inflammatory medications like Advil and Alieve. In this episode of HomeTown Health, Dr. Dan shares why reaching for that pill is likely doing more harm than good and ultimately decreasing your healing ability.
