A 28-year-old female presented to the chiropractic practice with a long-standing history of chronic migraines, which began around the age of 14. The migraines occurred approximately 1-2 times per month, accompanied by significant neck stiffness and occasional low back pain, primarily in the left sacroiliac joint. Despite receiving chiropractic care and massage therapy in the past, she reported no lasting relief, and the migraines persisted. She also mentioned difficulty focusing and performing at her best during physical activities, including coaching basketball, due to the frequency and intensity of the migraines. The patient’s symptoms were further compounded by neck tightness that interfered with her daily activities and limited her range of motion.
The patient’s treatment plan began with detailed chiropractic analysis utilizing motion x-ray and thermography scans, revealing motion restriction in the neck, upper back, and pelvis. Her initial care was two adjustments per week for two months, followed by a reduction to one session per week for three months. Adjustments focused on the cervical spine, thoracic spine, and sacroiliac joints, addressing the musculoskeletal imbalances contributing to her migraines and stiffness. Soft tissue therapies were incorporated to relieve tension and promote muscle relaxation in the affected areas. Over the course of the treatment, the patient reported a gradual decrease in the frequency and severity of her migraines. By the end of the three-month period, she experienced significant improvements in neck mobility and a marked reduction in her SI joint discomfort.
After a year of consistent care, including ongoing adjustments every two weeks, the patient has had no migraines for several months. She also reported being able to perform at a higher intensity during her workouts and with full focus while coaching basketball, a marked improvement from before her treatment. She continues to experience greater flexibility in her neck, reduced stiffness, and an overall improvement in her quality of life. The patient’s case demonstrates the effectiveness of consistent chiropractic care in addressing chronic migraine headaches, musculoskeletal discomfort, and enhancing athletic performance.
